UNDERNEATH

EP Archer’s debut release, Underneath, spans the course of over nine years, containing a slew of poetic lyrics informed by the artist’s yearning, childbirth, cancer surgery and treatment, recovery, estrangement, a coming out story and the journey towards unconditional love, all of which stayed pent up in this songwriter’s heart until 2018.

The songs range from pop and hip hop influenced to jazz and string orchestrations, to gritty angst-sung poetry in a minor key, all indie, all fresh and all littered with blood and love. The songs were all conceived, performed and arranged by the composer, lead singer and multi-instrumentalist, EP Archer.

The Slam

The Slam …By Emery Pace Archer

Breath

closes tight around my neck as I pause long and strong

Giving rise to the throng underneath the cries of what’s been wrong

The flies sting in my retinas- eyes bleed the truth out in cries of

labor Pains inside the cornea film replaying on rewind my mind tried and tired

Can’t spin into desires web, fracassed friction my only friend

except

This pen

Slam it down on end before we drown that sin spin the pulpit around son

Spit

And preach your ass off again there’s no way to win if your sweet soul sinks under the din

Of our mashed souls melted in the fray of five thousand single kisses a million miles away

And I’m slain

Sucking hard down pain every membrane reigns the rake we covet to scrape

Tie me up, barter me and spill your silver on their temple

I’ll be erect for you

inside a million drops of sweat muddled up frankensince’s witches brew

your oils in the oration of oratory’s fame flicked fingertips,

nail biting inside insane strains of capillaries drained and abased until my claws abrade

in the crazy day you claim -name succor demons (before the game) unneeded and your freedom blows through cavernous wasteland we swallow

and chew

This slam

Jamming out pens alive instead of inside our eyes every word fricasseed before we fry up sacred souls dance and Darwin’s clever prose off rhythm amiss

the crisp air meter and genres fizz as the whistles slowly between your teeth flips the lick of script you deliver insane

And no one cares, it only mattered you’re there And words live to rise

And the pounding pressure vibrates right between our thighs

Poetry lives in sinful bliss Akin to scratched up kin

Flying thin and bare, the sucorred win of friends

Human, Men women us -y’all, we, them!

So pick up our quill n rage  sweet again

Never miss a poem
